«Traduttore, traditore» – éditore-traditore ou sur le destin de la première traduction intégrale en roumain du livre «Les Mille et une nuits»

Aiming to recuperate a literary history truth, concerning the first true integral Romanian version of The Book of the Thousand and One Nights, the article’s author reconstructs the avatar of printing this great work of universal literature, during the 60s in Romania. For this, he uses unpublished correspondence with the translator himself, philosopher and writer Peter Hossu (1922–1998), the data here being confirmed by the testimonies of the two published memorial works describing the avatar of the version (authors Petre Hossu and Andrei-Iustin Hossu). Although, after two attempts to print (1966, Editura Pentru Literatură; 1991–1996, Editura Saeculum,3 volumes), this first full translation into Romanian of the Book of the Thousand and One Nights, done by Petre Hossu during 1960–1963, remained mostly in manuscript stage, because there is a cultural rapt, only the first volume being published under his name. The “canonical” version of Haralambie Grămescu is a later one, made, by his own confession, during 27 years (1966–1993).
