Therapeutic patent foramen ovale closure in a 92-year-old patient
Patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a common congenital heart defect that can lead to significant complications. This case report discusses a 92-year-old female patient with refractory hypoxia and platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome. The patient underwent successful transcatheter PFO closure, which significantly improved her oxygenation and quality of life. This case underscores the importance of considering PFO closure in elderly patients under specific circumstances, particularly when it offers substantial therapeutic benefits and aligns with the patient's goals of care. • Successful PFO closure in a 92-year-old improved hypoxia and quality of life. • Case emphasizes considering PFO closure in elderly patients for therapeutic and palliative benefits. • Highlights importance of individualized care and patient-specific intervention goals
