Testing the Security and Performance of MQTT Protocol on Raspberry Pi for IoT Applications
One of the core requirements for IoT environments is an M2M (machine-to-machine) protocol that enables device communication. A widely used protocol in these environments is MQTT. MQTT's lightweight design makes it ideal for resource-constrained IoT applications, and the Raspberry Pi's affordability and versatility have positioned it as a popular platform for such projects. This research investigates the security and performance of the MQTT protocol on the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B. To achieve this goal, several IoT environments with varying levels of bandwidth will be created and analyzed. The Raspberry Pi will act as the server, while virtualized instances of Linux will act as the clients. Performance and security analyses will be conducted on the data collected from these environments.
