Resilience Assessment and Enhancement for Distribution Network by Hydrogen Transportation

Distribution networks are susceptible to hurricanes that cause widespread power outages. Resilience reflects the ability of distribution networks to withstand disasters, minimizing fault losses and restore power as soon as possible. Therefore, it is crucial to assess and enhance the resilience of distribution networks under hurricanes. This paper focuses on the distribution system, utilizing hydrogen trucks to sustain critical loads during hurricanes, and evaluates the system's resilience through the lens of power shortages as a resilience index. First, a hurricane is simulated and a distribution network fault model is constructed to quantify the impact of the hurricane. The Monte Carlo method is used to generate fault scenarios and determine the scale of the fault. The resilience assessment method is proposed and the resilience index is calculated; The hierarchical load shedding and the hydrogen transportation restoration contingency measures are designed. Case studies are conducted in the IEEE 33 node system to evaluate its resilience. The results show that transporting hydrogen to restore critical loads based on microgrid islanding operation can improve the resilience of the whole system in face of hurricane damage.
