Optimal Operation of Integrated Energy System Comprising a Coal-Fire CHP Unit with Deep Peak Shaving Retrofits

A method for introducing several thermoelectric decoupling modifications and finding the optimal operation in an integrated energy system (IES) containing combined heat and power units (CHP) is presented in this paper. Firstly, in order to achieve the effective consumption of clean energy, several means of deep peak shaving retrofits, such as low-pressure cylinder excision modification, high- and low-pressure steam bypass modification, addition of an electric boiler, addition of a heat storage tank, are evaluated. The safe operation feasible domains and decoupling capabilities of these means are compared. Secondly, an equipment model was established based on the principles of cogeneration units and several decoupling modifications, and the optimal operation was solved with multiple energy flow balancing as the limiting condition for and the lowest daily operating cost as the objective. Finally, the simulation results show that the optimal operation method can achieve the lowest single-day operation cost, and all the thermoelectric decoupling retrofits introduced in the integrated energy system can reduce the proportion of wind and light abandonment and the single-day operation cost.
