The Growth of Asset Identification in OT Environments and Remaining Challenges
Asset identification in Operational Technology networks has received increased attention due to the lack of accurate, non-disruptive solutions and the rising need to combat cybersecurity-related concerns of facilities in the Industrial Control Systems space. This work presents a survey of available asset identification solutions and discusses their growth and ability to function in fragile OT environments. This work also implemented a number of these software solutions in a virtualized, segmented IT and OT environment known as Cyber City to test their efficacy and performance. A discussion of their results is additionally provided. Though discussions on remaining challenges are presented, the growth of new and existing solutions is viewed optimistically, with promising options and outlooks on future work.
