Voltage Regulation Improved by Stochastic Disturbance Compensation

The aim of this paper is the functional integration of a load compensation logic into the secondary voltage regulation strategy. The objective is to integrate FACTS devices into the control strategy for compensating for fast variations of load power while controlling the generators in the traditional way, as if the load variations were zero. The generators are controlled according to an optimal linear quadratic control logic, while FACTS devices provide compensating reactive power based on the estimate of load variations. PMUs data are used to model the fast load variations as a multivariate stochastic process of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck type. The estimation of this multivariate process is carried out using a Bayesian methodology, easily done and characterized by excellent accuracy. In the final part of the paper, the implementation procedure of the regulation logic is exposed. The numerical results obtained allow us to confirm the validity of the proposed regulation strategy.
