Smart Shopping Cart With Machine Learning, Navigation, and Weighing Technologies

The supermarket shopping experience in Saudi Arabia has faced significant challenges, such as long checkout queues, inefficient weighing processes for fruits and vegetables, and the lack of real-time product tracking. These issues lead to customer dissatisfaction and hinder operational efficiency in supermarkets. To address these challenges, our Smart Shopping Cart project was developed, incorporating advanced technologies to streamline and enhance the shopping experience. The Smart Cart integrates a machine learning-based camera recognition system for automatic item identification. Additionally, it features a precise weighing system for fruits and vegetables, providing real-time weight measurements directly within the cart. The inclusion of real-time position tracking further enhances convenience by enabling customers to easily locate items within the store. Lastly, a user-friendly graphical interface displays product details, total cost, and allows for seamless interaction. By integrating these innovative technologies, our Smart Shopping Cart improves customer satisfaction and help retailers optimize their operations. This paper presents the design, implementation, and performance evaluation of the Smart Shopping Cart system, demonstrating its potential to revolutionize the retail industry by addressing contemporary shopping challenges.
