IMPROVEMENT OF APPROACHES FOR DIAGNOSTICS OF LEAKS IN SMALL DIAMETER OIL AND GAS PIPELINES BASED ON NUMERICAL MODELLING

The article considers modern approaches to leak detection in small-diameter pipelines, which are widely used in the oil and gas industry. The problem of timely leak detection is critical, as leaks can lead to significant economic losses, environmental disasters and safety hazards. The main focus of the research is on calculations and recommendations to improve the accuracy and reliability of pipeline condition monitoring systems. In the course of the work, a numerical calculation of the fluid inside the pipeline was carried out based on the existing software for leak detection on pipelines [1]. Visualisation and plotting of the obtained values were carried out. The basis for numerical modelling was hydraulic calculations, which allow to simulate fluid flows, pressure, velocity and temperature changes along the pipeline. This makes it possible to study the influence of various factors on the flow parameters in real time. A calculation capable of modelling emergency situations with a high level of detail was used to identify leaks. The result of the calculation made it possible to determine the optimum sensor spacing to maximise the efficiency of the monitoring system. Various scenarios were analysed, including leaks of different intensities and sizes, which allowed the identification of a pattern of leaks. The results of the study can be used to improve the efficiency of existing pipeline monitoring systems, as well as to design new solutions. The practical significance of the work lies in the possibility of calculation on industrial monitoring systems, which will improve the existing models of leak detection and minimise their consequences. The proposed methods and technologies contribute to improving the operational reliability of pipeline systems and ensuring their safety.
