Magnetic measurements traceability at CEM

The development of a magnetic measurements laboratory at CEM responds to the lack of a reference in Spain to address the stakeholder's needs and to guarantee the traceability of magnetic measurements. A facility has been established to measure magnetic field intensity and magnetic flux density, in both, direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) up to 50 kHz. This has been achieved through the development of primary Helmholtz coils standards, for magnetic field generation, and reference measurement systems. The traceability is achieved using a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) sensor, as it measures DC magnetic field by giving a frequency signal that is traceable to the frequency standard. The main source of uncertainty for low and medium magnetic flux density is the environmental magnetic field, therefore, a cancellation system is required. As the stability of the cancellation system is of crucial importance for the measurements, an active compensation system is employed.
