Italy and China: A Round Trip Between Language, Culture and Tradition

This study explores the historical roots and contemporary dynamics of the Chinese community in Italy, highlighting Italy’s significant role in intercultural relations with China since the fifteenth century. It examines how these cultural exchanges have influenced the growth and stabilization of the Chinese community, which is now one of the largest in the Italian migration landscape. Through the analysis of recent demographic data and the challenges related to linguistic and generational integration, the study reflects on the importance of understanding these dynamics to promote inclusive policies and harmonious relations between cultures, fostering the emergence of a new form of Italian identity that integrates diverse cultural identities. To conclude, particular attention is given to the role of second-generation Italian-Chinese, whose bilingualism and biculturalism have become crucial for strengthening economic and cultural ties between the two countries.
