The impact of vitamin d on psychiatric and physiological mechanisms in the context of epilepsy
In recent decades, vitamin D has been recognized not only for its importance in bone health but also for its effects on the nervous system and mental well-being. This study examines the influence of vitamin D on physiological and psychiatric mechanisms in the context of epilepsy, a complex neurological disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. Recent research indicates that vitamin D deficiency may intensify the severity of epileptic seizures and contribute to psycho-emotional comorbidities such as anxiety and depression. By investigating the molecular mechanisms through which vitamin D interacts with neurotransmitters and supports neuroplasticity, this review aims to highlight the therapeutic potential of vitamin D supplementation for improving the quality of life of patients with epilepsy. The results suggest that a multidisciplinary approach, which includes the assessment and management of vitamin D levels, could offer significant benefits in the treatment and management of this condition.
