Management of bipolar disorder during pregnancy in a 37-year-old female: A case report
This case report discusses a 37-year-old female who presented in the Emergency Department with increased psychomotor activity, elation, racing thoughts, impulsive behavior, irritability, persecution, prejudice, and religious delusions. The symptoms occurred in the context of her 20-week pregnancy and non-compliance with treatment, a significant contributing factor. The patient was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, characterized by frequent and recurrent episodes of mania, hypomania, and depression, often presenting with psychotic features such as delusions or hallucinations. This case highlights the difficulty of treating pregnant women with manic symptoms and concerns regarding the treatment’s effects on fetal health.
