Comparative Evaluation Of AssociationBetween Wear Pattern Of Teeth, OcclusalInterferences And Condylar Guidance InAnterior Open Bite And Normal OverbitePatients:AnInVivoStudy

Purpose: The impact of Balancing occlusal contacts on the stomatognathic system is a topic well known among the practitioners and in the dental literature .Such interferences leads to excessive tooth contact and wear associated with it.So the purpose of this study was to compare and correlate between wear pattern of teeth , occlusal interferences and condylar guidance in Anterior open bite patients.Materials and methodology : Study included 32 subjects , which were divided in 2 groups group 1 (Anterior open bite , 16 subjects ) and group 2 (normal overbite,16 subjects ) Occlusal interferences were evaluated using Arti-fol articulating paper in Protrusive and laterotrusive movements.Orthopantomograph were taken of all subjects and condylar guidance angle were measured .Unpaired t test was applied to compare the tooth wear score, condylar guidance score and no. of teeth with wear between Group 1 and Group 2. Results : Significantly higher number of occlusal interferences were seen on protrusive and balancing side during excursive movements. There was statistically significant difference in tooth wear score between Group 1 and , Group 2. In Group 1 on an average no. of teeth with wear was observed to be 11.061.86and in Group 2 was 9.063.17.There was statistically significant difference observed in total number of teeth with wear. Conclusion:There is significantly more number balancing occlusal interferences as there is no disocclusion happening secondary to Anterior open bite. The amount of tooth wear that occurred were more in Anterior open bite group than Normal bite group.
