Influence of rotation speed on friction loss in parallel gears
Friction plays a significant role in determining the performance and efficiency of gears, yet it is frequently neglected in traditional gear performance calculations. This paper seeks to address this gap by developing a novel method that incorporates key factors such as the coefficient of friction, the geometric dimensions of the gears, the viscosity of the lubricant, and the rotational speed. These factors are crucial in determining the frictional losses and overall efficiency in gear systems. The proposed relationship is validated through its application to parallel-axis gears, such as spur and helical gears. The results indicate that the model predicts gear performance under rotation speed rang specific. Additionally, the study reveals that other factors, ventilation and buoyancy, become increasingly important at higher rotational speeds, further influencing performance. This approach offers a more comprehensive understanding of gear performance, providing insights that can enhance the design and optimization of gear systems for improved performance.
