Analysis of collected stone artefacts at the Sitai site in Shangyi County, Hebei Province

<p indent="0mm">During the transition period from Paleolithic to Neolithic, human society underwent tremendous transformations, the knapping lithics served as a crucial bridge and helped human to adapt these changes. There is no doubt that knapping lithics were a vital instrument in those activity related to subsistence, and it can help us better comprehend the past. This article examines 662 knapping lithic collected during a survey at the Sitai site in 2023. The research suggests that microblade technology with stable technical qualities is the most important knapping technology in the Sitai site, and the microblade core is primarily semi-conical. In this knapping lithic assemblage, the most items are microblade, and the endscarpers are the mainly tool type in the toolset. The raw material analysis shows that there were many flints used at the location, and the agate is the second one. And the cortex indices underlie that the majority raw material were quarried from some distant area, which supported by the raw material survey around the Sitai site. What’s more, it was discovered through comparison that the knapping lithics at the Sitai site differ from other sites in terms of raw materials and toolset, possibly due to differences in the environment in which the site is located or the production and subsistence activities carried out by humans on the site.
