Problems of fishing industry sustainable development in the Russian economy
Russia's fishery complex as an integral part of the national economy plays a key role in ensuring food security and economic stability of the country. It provides the population with high-quality products creates jobs and generates significant income. In the context of a rapidly changing world, caused, among other things, by anti-Russian sanctions, the task of improving the competitiveness of Russian fisheries becomes especially urgent. Analysis of existing studies and statistical data shows that there is a significant potential for the development of the industry. Serious obstacles stand in the way of the fishery sector's prosperity: market volatility – price fluctuations caused by external factors such as demand in international markets, exchange rates and trade barriers create instability in the industry and make it difficult to plan long-term development; high operating costs – significant expenditures on fuel, equipment, as well as taxes and fees make Russian products less competitive compared to their foreign counterparts; and the problem of illegal fishing – poaching. To overcome these challenges and achieve sustainable development of the fishing sector in Russia, a comprehensive approach is required. The implementation of such measures as market diversification, increased production of value-added products, introduction of advanced market information systems, improved fuel efficiency, enhanced monitoring and law enforcement, etc. will not only help to maintain the existing share of fisheries in the economy, but also bring the Russian industry to a leading position in the global fish and seafood market
