EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF ABRASIVE GRAIN SHAPE ONTHE SURFACE PROPERTIES OF STEEL OPERATED IN MINERALABRASIVE MASS
The paper presents the study on the Hardox Extreme steel in a natural abrasive mass with different particleshapes. The research employed the rotating bowl method using both crushed aggregate and natural sandwith the grain size varying from 0.05 mm to 2 mm. Both kinds of the sand were obtained from an aggregatemine. The abrasive masses used in the study were characterized by the similar grain size distribution and theydiffered in terms of the abrasive grain shape. The obtained results show that the crushed aggregate causes fourtimes bigger loss in the mass of the Hardox Extreme steel compared to the natural sand. The values of theroughness parameters are correlated with the results of wear and surface images of the investigated materialsdepending on the sand used. The worn out surface of the natural sand has much lower roughness parameters. Itwas caused by the regular shape of the grains. In the case of the surface investigated in the crushed aggregate, the values of the parameters are much higher than for the investigated material in the natural sand.
