A Study on the Effectiveness Perception of Autonomous Police Systems

In July 2021, the era of autonomous police began in earnest. However, the current autonomous police system has been criticized for its lack of preparation, including collecting opinions from the operating entities, and there are still criticisms about the limitations of the unitary system. However, regardless of the form, the purpose and function of police activities remain the same, and they must be able to ensure effective police activities under any circumstances. In the meantime, 18 autonomous police committees nationwide have been working to develop policing policies and provide policing services that meet the needs of their respective localities and residents. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the autonomous police system through the analysis of residents' perceptions in the transitional situation of the establishment of the autonomous police system and to analyze the factors that affect the perception of effectiveness. The results of the analysis showed that the independent variables of police activity satisfaction, local safety level, and favorability of the autonomous police system all have an impact on the perception of the effectiveness of the autonomous police system, and when comparing the size of the influence of the variables, it was found that police activity satisfaction has the highest impact on the effectiveness of the autonomous police system.
