Abstract

Laccase is an oxidoreductase enzyme that is distinguished by its unique properties. It became well-known for its extraordinary capacity to convert a broad range of substrates and its environmentally benign properties. This review provides a thorough explanation of laccase, including details on its nature, enzymatic characteristics, mechanism of action, and industrial applications in a range of sectors.Owing to its versatility, multiplicity, and environmentally benign properties, laccase is generated by fungi, bacteria, and plants and is used in a variety of industries, including bioremediation, food and beverage, textile, pulp and paper, and pharmaceuticals.Laccase's biological stability and activity have been significantly increased by recent research employing protein engineering and biosorbent approaches, which will let the enzyme be used in biorefinery operations and environmentally friendly chemical syntheses. The review covers the obstacles and possible horizons of the laccase biotechnology, thus it can be used as a tool of green chemistry and sustainable development progress.
