Child maltreatment due to neglect (beyond the obvious) (I): risk factors of the child and the environment
Neglect as a form of violence against children includes both isolated and repeated incidents of neglect by a parent or caregiver with respect to the child's development and well-being, in terms of health, education, emotional development, nutrition and safe living conditions. This document describes risk factors in the environment or in the child that expose him/her to situations that increase his/her vulnerability and the possibility of suffering maltreatment due to neglect. In most cases, the parents or caregivers who provoke it will do so involuntarily, with no intention of doing harm. They are, for this reason, situations that can go unnoticed if they are not especially valued.
