Information as a Cultural Phenomenon of the Information Society
Informatization, as a social practice, has been the catalyst for the transformation of reading culture into an information culture, thereby shaping the information society that has succeeded the industrial one. This has destabilized traditional perceptions of information due to changes in the social, cultural, and professional contexts of its use. The article examines the phenomenon of information, focusing on its internal structure and interactions with the external environment. It also highlights the features of human experience influenced by digitalization and informatization, as well as the differences between “phenomenon of culture” and “cultural phenomenon”. The aim of this study is to analyze and identify the specific characteristics of information culture and the information society, which determine the role and nature of information in digital and social environments. This is in response to the increasing impact of information and communication technologies (ICTs) on society.
