Theoretical study of twisted-photon-induced single ionization of nitrogen molecules

The interaction of twisted photons with atoms and molecules has garnered significant interest in recent decades. It has been established that, in the case of randomly distributed targets, the cross sections do not depend on the orbital angular momentum of the twisted projectile, thus ruling out helical dichroism. However, examining the impact-parameter-independent and -dependent cross sections, as demonstrated in the twisted-photon-induced single ionization of the ${\mathrm{N}}_{2}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}1{\ensuremath{\sigma}}_{g}$ orbital, the findings suggest that helical dichroism can be primarily observed in the impact-parameter-dependent cross sections for the photoelectron emitted in twisted light propagation direction, for both the radial and angular components. This comprehensive study not only clarifies the mechanisms underlying helical dichroism but also enhances our understanding of the complexities of twisted-photon scatterings.
