Monitoring Performance Indicators during Electrokinetic Treatment
Electrokinetic treatment is a sustainable ground improvement method that involves the application of an electric field to the soil to enhance its properties. This study aims to investigate the effect of undrained shear strength of soft soil on the efficiency and performance parameters of electrokinetic treatment. The study also aims to monitor crucial performance parameters such as volumetric water content, ohmic heating, water potential, and cracks during electrokinetic treatment under varying undrained shear strengths of the soil. The study indicates that the performance parameters are significantly affected by the undrained shear strength of the soil. The study found a 1.9°C increase in the maximum temperature of the soil observed during the treatment of soil with 9.81 kPa undrained shear strength. Further, a higher crack area is observed for soil with an undrained shear strength of 0.64 kPa. Monitoring stated parameters can help optimize the treatment process and improve treatment control, improving efficiency and effectiveness.
