Investigation of the Cooling of a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor with Different Types of Coolants
One of the main factors that influence the performance of permanent magnet synchronous motors - used in electric and hybrid vehicles is the type, structure and operation of the motor's cooling system. On the one hand, the motor is subjected to significant electromagnetic loads, and on the other hand, the cooling of the permanent magnets and the stator winding is of particular importance for the operation of the motor. The article presents data from investigation of the cooling of a permanent magnet synchronous motor with different types of coolants- antifreeze and oil by using the software product Ansys Maxwell 2015. The properties of materials and coolants that are set in the model are presented. At different inlet temperatures (up to twice the motor's rated power) of the coolant the spatial distribution of the temperature, the minimum and maximum temperature in different parts of the motor are determined -stator, rotor, coil sides, end connection, magnet, motor frame.
