A highly integrated ultrasound open platform to develop and test advanced techniques for ultraportable scanners

Ultraportable ultrasound systems have significantly enhanced point-of-care diagnostics by providing affordable, accessible, and user-friendly imaging solutions in clinical settings. These devices have proven to be highly effective in healthcare, especially in resource-limited environments, emergency medicine, and global health applications. However, the closed hardware and software architecture of these devices limits their adaptability for the development of novel ultrasound techniques. This paper presents an open platform for ultrasound research that addresses these limitations while maintaining the processing capabilities, power efficiency, and cost-effectiveness of handheld systems. This platform offers the flexibility and configurability needed to implement and test innovative imaging techniques specifically tailored for handheld and ultraportable ultrasound systems.
