Application of a Dualistic Approach to Reactive Load Compensation and Voltage Regulation to Improve the Energy Efficiency of Power Supply Systems

Losses of power and electrical energy depend strongly on the compensation of the reactive loads /CRL/ and on the level of the supply voltage. A study was conducted for a large industrial plant to establish the relationship between CRL, voltage level and power loss. The power of the compensating system is determined depending on the transformation coefficient of the power transformer Kt, the active and inductive resistance of the circuit X and R and the voltage levels on the HV and LV sides. At different values of Kt, the power losses at several load levels were determined. The obtained results make it possible to conclude that not in all cases, the increase in voltage leads to a decrease in power losses. This depends largely on the static characteristics of the load.
