Climate Change Impact on Wind Energy Potential in Rameshwaram

Climate change is expected to affect global energy patterns, including renewable energy sources like wind power. Climate models help us understand these changes, but they come with certain difficulty due to their complexity. This study examines future wind characteristics in Rameshwaram using an ensemble of six regional climate models from the CORDEX-SA domain, specifically the Reg <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$C$</tex>M4 model. This study analyzed wind speeds under two climate instances, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, for different time periods: near-future (up to 2046), mid-future (up to 2073), and far-future (up to 2099). The result shows a gradual increase in wind resources over time. Wind density peaks in July, leading to the highest energy potential during this month. The monsoon season also shows the highest seasonal wind density, while wind energy potential is expected to increases overall from winter to spring and decreases from summer to fall.
