A Scenario Based Multicriteria Analysis of Green Hydrogen as Transport Fuel in India: Studying the Socio-Economic-Environmental Dimensions

This study is based on three of the scenarios, of the India Energy Outlook 2021, the Stated Policy Scenario (STEPS); India Vision Case (IVC) and the Sustainable Development Scenario (SDS). The paper estimates the amount of green hydrogen (GH) that can be produced from renewable energy for each scenario and compares the economic, environmental and social impact of producing GH and using it as transport fuel replacing gasoline. The Multicriteria analysis consists of two parts, in the first part we consider the case where the entire projected renewable energy production in the three scenarios is used in generation of (GH) and in the second case we consider the impact of using a part of the renewable energy to meet electricity demand that is unmet by conventional power sources and use the excess renewable power to generate green hydrogen.
