SOP Monitoring Using Time-Frequency Feature Extraction of the Polarization Tributary Powers
This letter proposes a comprehensive method to monitor the change speed of the state of polarization (SOP) for optical transmission systems. By using time-frequency feature extraction of the polarization tributary powers. The proposed method can be implemented either in the receiver digital signal processor (DSP) without using the MIMO module or at any fiber span nodes with simple hardware. It was validated in a 2000 km fiber link and can monitor within or exceeding 20 Mrad/s SOP change speed.
