Impedance compensation method for ultrasound sensors

Conventional charge amplifiers and voltage amplifiers, when amplifying charge or voltage signals from ultrasound sensors, are affected by the sensor’s impedance. Currently with the miniaturization of ultrasound devices, the size and the impedance of the sensors usually become larger. Therefore, the impact of sensor impedance is increasing. The new proposal suggests using a voltage amplifier that treats the internal impedance of the sensor as part of the amplification circuit. The impedance of the ultrasound sensor is compensated by a feedback network.

Abstract

Conventional charge amplifiers and voltage amplifiers, when amplifying charge or voltage signals from ultrasound sensors, are affected by the sensor’s impedance. Currently with the miniaturization of ultrasound devices, the size and the impedance of the sensors usually become larger. Therefore, the impact of sensor impedance is increasing. The new proposal suggests using a voltage amplifier that treats the internal impedance of the sensor as part of the amplification circuit. The impedance of the ultrasound sensor is compensated by a feedback network.
