An Energy Super-Regenerative Wake-Up Receiver With Interference and Pre-ED Noise Power Suppression
This article presents a novel energy super-regenerative (ESR) wake-up receiver (WuRX) which remarkably reduces the power consumption of baseband circuits through directly detecting the RF signal’s energy and accumulating it at an exponential rate. To improve the sensitivity, a noise power cancellation technique implemented through a pseudo-differential architecture is proposed to alleviate the interference and pre-ED noise power. To suppress the input referred noise further, a MEMS resonator is employed to provide passive gain. Furthermore, the FSK and on-off keying (OOK) demodulation can be configured according to different applications and varying environment. The ESR-WuRX is fabricated in a 65-nm CMOS technology, and it achieves −83.6 dBm sensitivity at 200-kbps data rate consuming 150.6-<inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\mu $ </tex-math></inline-formula>W power at 1-V voltage supply. In addition, −24.1 dB SIR is achieved at the frequency offset of 7 MHz. The total silicon area is about 1.69 mm2.
