Enhanced Power Quality Control in Distribution Networks: Integrating Management Prioritization and Equipment Capacity

As distributed energy resources (DERs) are increasingly integrated into distribution networks (DNs) via inverters, the management of power quality has increased in flexibility. This paper proposes an enhanced current control strategy for reactive, harmonic and negative sequence distortion situation. Firstly, for a single inverter, it creatively uses the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and the coefficient of variation (CV) method to achieve the management customization while considers both subjective and objective factors. Then for the coordinated control of multiple inverters, based on the droop control, each inverter adaptively adjusts the compensation power rely on its own capacity. It enables the plug-and-play configuration and avoids extra expense for controllers or sensors. Above all, the proposed strategy considers both power quality demands and the equipment limitation and finally ensures a balance between them. The feasibility of the proposed strategy is validated with MATLAB/Simulink simulation studies.
