Torque Improvement Method for Flux Modulated Motor by Inserting Magnets Between Pole Pieces

This paper proposes a torque improvement method for a flux modulated motor with magnetic modulation. This motor consists of an inner stator with permanent magnets, a rotor with pole pieces, and an outer stator with coils. We investigated the possibility of improving the torque by inserting permanent magnets into the air space between the pole pieces. As a result, it was theoretically clarified that the torque can be greatly improved under certain conditions.

Abstract

This paper proposes a torque improvement method for a flux modulated motor with magnetic modulation. This motor consists of an inner stator with permanent magnets, a rotor with pole pieces, and an outer stator with coils. We investigated the possibility of improving the torque by inserting permanent magnets into the air space between the pole pieces. As a result, it was theoretically clarified that the torque can be greatly improved under certain conditions.
