Design of Fractal MIMO Antennas for Communication Applications
This study presents a dual-port multiple input multiple output (MIMO) antenna design emphasizing robust isolation, affordability, and simplicity in its structure. It is appropriate for 5G communication bands n41 (2.496-2.690GHz), n77 (3.3-4.2GHz), n78 (3.3-3.8GHz), and n79 (4.4-5.0GHz). The front side of the single antenna is composed of a hybrid structure, blending a hexagonal radiation patch with a rectangular one. The ground plane, featuring a rectangular groove, serves to amplify isolation between the two antenna ports by etching a bow-shaped groove between the two antenna elements. The perfect MIMO antenna operates between 0.5 and 5 GHz, has a relative bandwidth of 164%, and achieves an in-band isolation of more than 15 dB and a less than 0.004 envelope correlation coefficient because a bow groove was etched between the two antenna components. The MIMO antenna’s design offers simple operation and good radiation performance.
