Research on Communication Channel of VHF Data Exchange System
To develop a global coverage VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) for providing maritime service, especially to be advanced to enhance global E-Navigation capabilities. VDES inherits the original functions of AIS (Automatic Identification System) while improving data exchange, transmission capabilities, and overall communication capacity. This study examines the communication channel performance of the VDE-SAT (VDE-Satellite) system and presents a method for analyzing the communication coverage performance of both uplink and downlink. The finding indicates that the oblique antenna is more effective at meeting communication needs at low elevation angles and demonstrates greater robustness. As a universal method for evaluating the communication channels of the VDE-SAT system, this approach is highly significant for the research and design of the VDES.
