New data on the structure of the Kaliakra Cape sedimentary section, Northeastern Bulgaria
Sedimentological and geotechnical studies of Kaliakra Cape reveal the presence of specific sediments, carbonate tempestites, which are not found elsewhere in Northеastern Bulgaria. This fact allows a reinterpretation of the geological situation at the cape, suggesting a new structural model. The Sarmatian carbonate tempestites belong to a separate block, thrusted over the carbonate stromatolites and thrombolites of the Odartsi Formation (middle Bessarabian) and then covered by the Mactra limestones of the Karvuna Formation (middle Khersonian).
