A Near-Infrared Fluorescent Nanoparticle Drug Delivery System As a Model for Evaluating Drug Release in Lung Cancer Therapy

Lung cancer is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality worldwide, among which non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common. The traditional treatment of NSCLC mainly relies on chemotherapeutic drugs, and the development of effective drug carriers is crucial to improve the delivery efficiency of drugs. This study provides a foundation for novel drug platforms for the clinical treatment of NSCLC. In this study, we developed an advanced fluorescent nanoparticle drug delivery system, PEG–Cy7-Cl–C8-COOH, integrating polyethylene glycol (PEG), cyanine 7 chloride (Cy7-Cl), and caprylic acid (C8) to enhance the efficiency and precision of NSCLC treatment. This composite nanoparticle, further loaded with anticancer ethyl 2-amino-4-(4-bromothiophen-2-yl)-6-hydroxymethyl-8-oxo-4,8-dihydropyrano[3,2-b]pyran-3-carboxylate, forms PEG–Cy7-Cl–C8-COOH@1. In vitro experiments demonstrated that this nanoparticle system effectively delivers the anticancer compound to cells and significantly inhibits NSCLC cell proliferation by regulating key proliferation-related genes such as KLF5 and GCN5. This study not only introduces a novel approach to enhancing lung cancer drug delivery and treatment using fluorescent nanoparticles but also reveals the potential of multifunctional nanoparticle systems to improve therapeutic outcomes and enable real-time monitoring, providing valuable insights for the development of future lung cancer treatment strategies and personalized medicine.
