My journey into belonging

This article describes how the author finds her higher self and shares it with the reader in her liberation from the bondage of a ‘false self’, which she argues is a psychological epidemic rife in our society. She explains this leap into her dark valley of Freedom – through facing the ‘blank canvas’ as a fledgling artist, with no prior background in art or talent for painting. Metaphorically and psychologically, one could equate the ‘blank canvas’ with the unconscious mind that contains memories, impulses, wishes and emotional conflicts that are not directly accessible to awareness. These unconscious processes can still have a dynamic effect on a person’s behaviour and thought.
