SUSTAINABILITY EDUCATION IN TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE ENGINEERING PROGRAM
Road and railway engineering are pivotal in advancing transportation infrastructure, integrating civil engineering principles with modern transportation system complexities. This field’s research and education are essential for designing, constructing, and managing sustainable transportation networks, which are vital for the efficient movement of goods and people, driving economic growth, and maintaining regional connectivity. However, current engineering curricula often lack comprehensive education on sustainable practices, leaving graduates underprepared for future roles in promoting sustainable development. It is crucial to emphasize sustainable and resilient infrastructure solutions in education, equipping graduates to develop transportation networks that are safe, environmentally friendly, and adaptable. This paper analyzes standard engineering curricula and identifies specific transportation infrastructure courses where sustainability concepts can be integrated with minimal disruption, enhancing the educational framework to better prepare future engineers for sustainability challenges. Key words: Transport infrastructure, sustainability, education, curricula, courses.
