A multi-stage DSC-TG methodology for study of zeolite minerals

A multi-stage DSC-TG approach containing a sequence of dynamic and isothermal modes during heating and cooling in a certain temperature interval was arranged to study the zeolite dehydration/hydration within one experiment. Several parameters related to these processes (such as sample mass changes, dehydration and hydration heats calculated per gram zeolite and enthalpy values calculated per mol water) were quantified for each stage. This approach would apply to several areas of zeolite study concerning their thermal behavior and energetic parameter determinations: comparing zeolite minerals of the same species but from different deposits; clarifying the contribution of individual cations in mono-cationic zeolite forms; evaluating the role of the different types of zeolite structures, etc.
