Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface Assisted Wireless Transmissions: Basic Principles and Potential Protocol Design
Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technique has gained enormous attention from both academia and industry in recent years. To achieve commercial deployment of RIS in the future, the related standardization work is essential in prior. In this article, we focus on the standardization perspective of RIS and provide related considerations from operator's point of view. This article begins with analysis of basic framework of RIS assisted wireless communication, where three types of RIS are considered. Then, some basic principles of protocol design for RIS are given, followed by detailed analysis. In the end, a potential roadmap for RIS from standardization perspective is provided.
