Toward a Comprehensive Trust Model Assessment for Telecommunication Networks: An Introduction to the Upcoming ITU-T Standard Y.3260
As the development of 6G technology continues to unfold, trust models are increasingly used to facilitate the establishment of trustworthy telecommunication networks. As a result, there is a crucial need for methods to evaluate, assess, and compare these trust models, to ensure that they are impartial, comprehensive, robust, and effective. The newly approved ITU-T standard Y.3260 provides a solution to the problem. The Quality of Model framework introduced in Y.3260 contains metrics covering seven major aspects, approaches with four different granularity levels, and procedures that contain both semantic and non-semantic approaches. The assessment procedures are used to produce an evaluation result for trust models, facilitating model developers to identify areas of potential improvement and guiding users in the model selection process. The impacts of Y.3260 include the ability to ensure the fairness, flexibility, and comprehensiveness of the evaluation results by using a set of standardized and generalizable assessment methods. Y.3260 is expected to be published as an official Recommendation in early 2025. It is believed that Y. 3260 will leave considerable impacts in the development of trustworthy 6G telecommunications network after its publication.
