Multifunctional agriculture: Farm-based responses to market and government in Australia and China
• Peri-urban multifunctional agriculture (MFA) is examined in contrasting policy contexts. • MFA in China has been developed under the guidance of strong policy implementation. • In Australia a neo-liberal regime emphasizes decisions by individual farmers. • Clustering techniques highlight a multifunctional transition in two study areas. • Farm-based tourism and pro-environmental actions are integral to this transition.
