Systematic analysis of recent scientific literature on edentulism using the PRISMA 2020 methodology
Edentulism is an oral health condition that significantly impacts quality of life, masticatory function, and aesthetics, representing a major challenge in clinical practice and global public health. The aim of this study was to analyze recent scientific literature on edentulism published between 2020 and 2025 to identify trends, associated factors, and therapeutic approaches, in order to contribute to updated knowledge and the improvement of its clinical and preventive management. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, selecting 3,657 relevant studies from the PubMed database, from which 12 articles meeting strict inclusion criteria were included. The results highlighted that psychological and patient factors are crucial in adapting to complete dentures; digital technologies, such as computer-assisted surgery and 3D printing, significantly enhance precision and functionality in oral rehabilitation; denture adhesives and space registration methods contribute to improved stability and masticatory performance; and epidemiological projections warn of an increase in edentulism and severe periodontitis by 2050. It is concluded that managing edentulism requires a multidisciplinary approach that integrates advanced technological interventions, psychological strategies, and public health policies focused on prevention. This study provides a comprehensive foundation to improve clinical care and guide future research in the field of edentulism
