Russian Criticism of Western Liberal Democracy: A Security Perspective

The aim of this article is to elucidate how Russian policy discourse presents democracy under the current conditions of confrontation with the West, identify the key elements of the Russian criticism of Western liberal democracy, and explore how Russia portrays itself as an alternative model of a democratic state. The sources for this article are Russian strategic documents, primarily those devoted to national security and foreign policy. These sources have been analysed for the presence of key elements defining democracy.
