High-temperature silicon carbide ceramic sintered with erbium oxide
Microstructure development and phase formation processes during sintering of silicon carbide-based materials with Er 2 O 3 ‒AlN sintering additive were investigated. Their mechanical properties were measured as a function of Er 2 O 3 ‒AlN content and proportion of α- and β-SiC powders in the initial mixtures. Silicon carbide-based ceramics with Er 2 O 3 ‒AlN sintering additive with flexural strength at room temperature (677±18) МPa, flexural strength at 1600 °С (472±12 МPа), fracture toughness ~ 5,8 МPа·m 1/2 were fabricated.
