ESG Concept in the Condition of Municipalities: The Case Study of Beskydy Region

In today’s world, sustainability is discussed in several fields. It is not only applied to enterprises in the business environment but also at the level of the country, even at the local management level. It is investigated as an important aspect in the effort to increase the efficiency of small control units in the field of management. Cities, municipalities, and communities themselves play a very important role in the effort to increase efficiency and achieve sustainability. In addition, a sustainable public sector means an even better quality of life for the citizens because of the higher interest of the local management in the surroundings. This paper provides insight into the investigation of sustainability in the conditions of municipalities, where the analyses focus on a new possible use of ESG criteria as an indicator of sustainability in municipalities and their local management. In this article, we look at municipalities like on social business, where the municipalities also try to reach the satisfaction of their “suppliers” and “employees” (inhabitants and tourists). Through synthesis, comparison, and financial analysis, the article brings out ESG criteria for municipalities, then applies the ESG ratings and latter select municipalities into rating groups. In the end, this article brings suggestions for improving ESG in municipalities and some brief mentions about future research. This article is a revised version of the author’s 2023 article.
