Analysis Investigations of Thermal Performance in Microchannel Heat Sink with Jet Impingement

Microchannel heat sink and jet impact are effective cooling technologies that rapidly remove heat dissipation in the electronic devices at high heat flux. To realize higher heat transfer efficiency, using deionized water as working coolant, the microchannel heat sinks with jet impingement (MHSJ) have been considered to investigate the heat transfer and flow performance on heat exchange surface. The different target distances [Formula: see text] of 0.5–1.25 mm and rib structures including circular, rectangular, and triangular column ribs in MHSJ are studied numerically at [Formula: see text] (800–2200). The simulation results are that decreasing the [Formula: see text] in microchannel can augment the formation of vortices that can promote flow disturbance and the generation of turbulence. The microchannel with target distance of 0.5 mm has the beat heat transfer performance, the heat transfer coefficient of which is improved by 18.62% at [Formula: see text], relative to target distance of 1.25 mm. And the performance evaluation criterion (PEC) of the microchannel at [Formula: see text] always becomes higher than that for the other microchannels. In addition, compared to the microchannel with no rib, the microchannels with column ribs that can improve convective heat transfer coefficient on the heat exchange surface as a result of enlarging the heat transfer area have the better heat transfer and flow characteristic. The convective heat transfer coefficient of the microchannel with rectangular column ribs is 5.65% higher than that with no ribs at [Formula: see text].
