Treating Leachate from a China-based Landfill with Modified Adsorbent Resin

Abstract We employed sodium lignosulfonate grafted sodium polyacrylate resin for the adsorption treatment of leachate from a landfill Fushun City, China. We obtained the resin’s removal rates of Pb 2+ , Cu 2+ , COD, and NH 3 -N and used them to examine how adsorbent dosages, pH levels, and oscillation times affect its performance in treating leachate in wastewater. According to the experimental results, its performance in adsorbing heavy metal ions, particularly Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ , in the leachate from waste, was considerably improved. The optimal comprehensive treatment results were obtained with a pH of 4.5, an adsorbent dosage of 55 mg, and an oscillation time of 80 minutes, with the removal rates being 91.3% and 89.6%, respectively, for Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ . The adsorbent resin exhibited certain removal capabilities for COD and NH 3 -N, although not to the same extent as observed for heavy metals.
